The couple had schemed to seduce, rob and murder women who placed personal ads in newspapers. Beck and Fernandez boasted to killing as many as seventeen women in this manner, but evidence suggests that there may have been only four victims. Martha Beck was an extremely overweight, and by all reports, unattractive woman when she joined a lonely hearts club advertised in a romance magazine.
February 28th, Wyoming Township, MI. Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck were returning from a nice evening out, enjoying a movie with refreshments; popcorn and soda. One could easily imagine the couple smiling, throwing an arm around one another when the wind picks up or recalling a favorite scene from the film. The pair would make it home but within a few hours be alarmed at an early morning knock at the door. It was the local police. A welfare check was called on the family by neighbors and authorities soon discovered something sinister was afoot.
Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck a. Fernandez was born in Hawaii in His parents were Spanish immigrants who later moved to Fairfield, Connecticut. His father, a handyman, always treated him harshly for unknown reasons; he refused to school Fernandez and would force him to do the most demeaning work.
I have not studied this case thoroughly since it is already a very well-known case. If this is an example of a Jewish female serial killer it will be a rare example. In my research I have noted that Jewish female serial killers seem to be "underrepresented. You undoubtedly are. Martha Beck's maiden name was Seabrook, which is of English origin. I seriously doubt that she was a German Jew.
